Too much plastic is needed to make bank cards every year, and with environmental concerns growing, Thales, a leader in high-tech security, has developed a solution. For example, a card made of 85% polylactic acid (PLA), which is derived from corn; another innovative approach is to use the tissue from coastal cleanup operations through a partnership with environmental group Parley for the Oceans. Collected plastic waste – “Ocean Plastic®” as an innovative raw material for the production of cards; there is also an option for recycled PVC cards made entirely from waste plastic from the packaging and printing industry to reduce the use of new plastic .
